44 weeks and 4 days ago I restarted this project with the intent of developing a hobby driving simulator for myself, and a decent .NET-based simulation engine for everyone. I made good progress, getting as far as a fully-managed application framework and OpenGL renderer on Windows, Linux, and Mac OS X. But the sum total of all of my projects, including Flat Four, plus my day job, plus life was too much and I rather burnt out. I took a hiatus and evaluated what I was doing, and now I'm coming back with a new approach.
I'll be going into more detail over at my blog, but the important bit for Flat Four is this: well, first of all, I haven't forgotten about it, that's pretty important. But in order to work more effectively I am cutting back on the number of projects that I've got going at any one time. A new version of my Premake build configuration tool is next on my list, and then I'll be working my way back into the simulation code. But this time, instead of tackling a general purpose simulation engine straight off I will likely try a series of smaller, more focused projects, each exercising a different part of the full engine.
In the meantime, I've moved the Flat Four website over to my server at industriousOne. This consolidation of project websites cuts down on the amount of administrative work that I need to do and allows me to spend more time actually creating. This new site should also be more responsive than the often-overloaded servers at SourceForge.
So while things may be quiet, I am still around. Feel free to check out the code and post your questions here, I will be sure to answer. And if you want to know how things are going check out my blog, where I will be posting status updates and news from the front.
